Mentoring Enhances Networking, Teaching, Organizational Renewal and Success (M.E.N.T.O.R.S.) Program
MSU Human Resources
May 2011 – May 2012
From 2011-2012, I participated as a mentee in the MSU M.E.N.T.O.R.S. program with my mentors, Portia Vescio and Cynthia Ghering, from MSU Archives. I began this mentoring relationship prior to becoming a librarian because I wanted to learn more about working in the continuous appointment system at MSU. In addition, I also was able to work on projects at the University Archives, such as my creation of a research guide for materials related to the Geology Department and was also presented with an opportunity to create a workshop for the Historical Society of Michigan.

March 2013 – March 2014
I once again participated as a mentee in the M.E.N.T.O.R.S. program for 2013 with Laura Leavitt as a mentor. Laura helped me with building networking skills, as well as helping me with my transition to my new position as Government Information Librarian and Liaison to James Madison College. Since Laura has experience working as a liaison, she was very helpful with explaining how to work and communicate with faculty, as well as with questions that I had related to teaching library instruction classes.

August 2014 — August 2015
I participated as a mentee with Denise Forro, (at the time) Head of InterLibrary Services in the M.E.N.T.O.R.S. program from August 2014 — August 2015. I supervise student employees and as a unit head, Denise had a wealth of knowledge related to hiring and managing students and staff. In addition to discussions regarding managing employees, Denise and I also discussed career planning and interpersonal relationships.
New Librarians Round Table
MSU Libraries
2012-2013
In 2012, Nancy Lucas created this round table in order to help the many new librarians at the MSU Libraries. This group would meet monthly to discuss topics such as writing self-evaluations and goals and objectives, finding publishing opportunities, dossiers, reappointment, and other relevant topics. This group was very helpful with orienting me to being a librarian and it also helped me form a valuable peer support network of librarians who were experiencing the same situations as me.
