In August 2012 and December 2013, Portia Vescio, Assistant Director of the MSU Archives and I conducted a half-day workshop for the Historical Society of Michigan. This workshop was designed to give archivists, historians, and anyone else who manages historic collections a basic understanding of U.S. copyright law and other issues such as privacy, and how these issues relate to their collections and impact their work. I presented the first half of the presentation, providing an overview of copyright law and applicable exemptions, such as fair use. Portia presented the second half, beginning with the Copyright and Archives – Protect your Repository slide.
