COPYRIGHT

Goal: Promote Copyright awareness on campus, through training materials, courses, and an expanded web presence.

Keep up-to-date on issues, developments, resources, materials, trends, events, programs and classes relating to Copyright.

Ongoing. I monitor legal blogs and news aggregators, such as law.com, Library Law, and InfoDocket to stay informed about copyright issues.

Identify relevant Copyright resources that can be added to the Copyright page.

Ongoing.

Collaborate with the Copyright Librarian to develop Copyright courses.

Ongoing. The Copyright Librarian and I have discussed how we should proceed with course development in the future.

Collaborate with the Copyright Librarian to develop online training materials.

Ongoing.

Develop an understanding of typical copyright questions and how to answer these questions.

Ongoing. I have been working with the Copyright Librarian who has provided me with copyright questions that have been received and we have discussed how to handle the different questions.

Develop web-based Copyright training guides.

Ongoing.

Create interactive web tools to help users understand copyright.

Ongoing. I have begun designing web tools, such as an interactive copyright flow chart.

Update the Commonly Asked Questions about Copyright page.

Done. I have fixed broken links on this page.

REFERENCE SERVICES

Goal: Provide maximum access to resources for our users through high-quality reference services.

Provide reference services at the Main Library Reference Desk and through virtual reference (email, chat, and text).

Ongoing. I have had numerous desk/text and chat reference shifts and I will begin providing email reference assistance soon.

Create research guides as needed to help students, faculty and librarians find information.

Ongoing. I have created a research guide for University Archives to aid users who are researching the history of the Geology department.

Contribute to the development and maintenance of the Reference Collection (print and electronic) by suggesting useful titles.

Ongoing.

Contribute to the improvement of reference service by sharing news and information that will be helpful to other librarians and our users via reference meetings and the reference blog.

Ongoing. I have provided pertinent information to reference librarians via the reference listserv.

Attend reference meetings and training sessions in order to increase my knowledge of researching all subject areas in order to provide more complete answers to patron questions.

Ongoing. I attend the bimonthly reference meeting when my schedule permits.

Promote the MSU Libraries’ resources and services, such as UBorrow and ArticleReach, to the MSU community during reference interactions.

Ongoing. During reference interactions, I direct users to appropriate library resources and services and explain/show how to use these different services and resources.

Meet with the head of reference for Reference department training, including scheduling (When-to-Work) and policies and procedures.

Done. I have completed reference training.

Meet with subject specialist librarians to learn major reference and research tools for each area.

Done and ongoing. I have met with many of the subject specialists in formal reference sessions so far, talked with others more informally while working at the reference desk, and I have more meetings scheduled for the near future.

Complete chat and email training.

Done. I have completed chat and email training.

Update the Distance Learning Services library website.

Done. I have updated the content of the Distance Learning Services site and removed broken links.

DIGITAL INITIATIVES

Goal: Work with the Digital and Multimedia Center and other librarians, faculty, and staff on issues relating to digital preservation and management.

Join data interest initiatives on campus.

Done and ongoing. I have joined the Data Interest Group (DIG) and the Research Data Management Guidance team.

Implement the CD Masters Project in conjunction with the Digital and Multimedia Center, which includes conducting an inventory, organizing, and labeling undocumented CDs.

Ongoing. I have met with the Digital and Multimedia Center about this project and have begun the planning this project.

SCHOLARLY AND CREATIVE ACTIVITIES

Goal: Contribute to the advancement of MSU and the creation and dissemination of new knowledge within the library profession.

Explore publishing and presentation opportunities.

Ongoing. I am currently writing an article for the Libraries’ Insights newsletter.

Create exhibits that highlight both a significant event/topic and the library’s collection.

Ongoing.

Seek educational opportunities to expand my knowledge of Copyright Law.

Ongoing. I have attended two webinars about copyright. I am also looking into the Center for Intellectual Property’s Certificate in Copyright Management and Leadership program for next year.

Seek educational opportunities to expand my knowledge of librarianship.

Ongoing. I have attended numerous webinars about librarianship and leadership; see Criterion 2 above.

PROFESSIONAL ACTIVITIES

Goal: Participate and collaborate with librarians, faculty and staff to advance the librarian profession, the MSU Libraries, and MSU.

Explore University programs for participation opportunities.

Ongoing. I have become the Treasurer for the Library Staff Association (2012-2013) and I am looking for more opportunities to get involved around campus.

Seek appropriate library and University committee involvement.

Ongoing. I am actively seeking out possible committees that I can join.

Participate in local and national professional organizations.

Attend professional conferences.

Ongoing. I have attended ALA Midwinter in January 2012 and I plan to attend ALA Annual in June.

Become a member of the Center for Intellectual Property.

Done. I joined the Center for Intellectual Property in March.

Seek opportunities to get involved in the Michigan Library Association.

Ongoing. I plan to volunteer for MLA in May.

Seek opportunities to get involved in the American Library Association’s New Members Round Table (NMRT).

Ongoing. I have submitted a committee volunteer form for NMRT for 2012-2013.
