COPYRIGHT
Goal: Promote copyright awareness on campus, through training materials, courses, and an expanded web presence.
Keep up-to-date on issues, developments, resources, materials, trends, events, programs and classes relating to copyright.
I monitor legal blogs and news aggregators, such as InfoDocket and Scholarly Communications @ Duke to stay informed about copyright issues. I am also a member of copyright listservs, such as digital copyright. I also attend relevant webinars on copyright (see Criterion II, above).
Identify relevant copyright resources that can be added to the copyright webpage.
I am currently working on redesigning the copyright webpages and evaluating the current resources.
Collaborate with the Copyright Librarian to develop copyright courses.
The Copyright Librarian and I are developing an in-person copyright course offered through Human Resources and Development in April 2013.
Collaborate with the Copyright Librarian to develop online training materials.
Develop an understanding of typical copyright questions and how to answer these questions.
Under the supervision of the Copyright Librarian, I am providing answers to copyright questions that the Library Office of Copyright receives.
Develop web-based copyright training guides.
The Copyright Librarian and I are working on creating online, self-paced copyright courses on ANGEL.
Create interactive web tools to help users understand copyright.
I have created a copyright libguide (libguides.lib.msu.edu/copyright) and plan on creating more sites and interactive tools.
Promote the services offered by the Library Office of Copyright (LOC) to the campus community.
I staffed the LOC’s table at the New Faculty Orientation Resource Fair and spoke with faculty members regarding the services offered by the LOC.
Create and maintain a blog about copyright.
Done and ongoing. I have created a copyright blog entitled Copyright News and I update it with relevant articles about copyright news.
Help promote copyright awareness through workshops.
I ran a half-day workshop with Portia Vescio for the Historical Society of Michigan (HSM) on Copyright Issues for Historic Collections in August 2012. She and I will be presenting this same workshop for HSM in December 2013.
Obtain a certificate in Copyright Management and Leadership from the Center for Intellectual Property.
I completed the certificate program in February 2013.
REFERENCE SERVICES
Goal: Provide maximum access to resources for our users through high-quality reference services.
Provide reference services at the Main Library Reference Desk and through virtual reference (email, chat, and text).
Ongoing. I provide approximately 9 hours of reference services per week.
Create research guides as needed to help students, faculty and librarians find information.
I have created libguides about copyright and Turnitin/iThenticate.
Contribute to the development and maintenance of the Reference Collection (print and electronic) by suggesting useful titles.
Contribute to the improvement of reference service by sharing news and information that will be helpful to other librarians and our users via reference meetings and the reference blog.
I have presented at reference meetings twice; once about Turnitin and the other time about iThenticate.
Attend reference meetings and training sessions in order to increase my knowledge of researching all subject areas in order to provide more complete answers to patron questions.
I attend the bimonthly reference meeting when my schedule permits.
Promote the MSU Libraries’ resources and services to the MSU community.
I helped staff the library’s table at AOP’s Resource Fair, providing information about the library and its services to incoming students and their parents.
Create exhibits that highlight both a significant event/topic and the library’s collection.
Holly Flynn and I created an exhibit in honor of the 100th anniversary of the Titanic disaster.
Promote services such as UBorrow and ArticleReach to patrons during reference interactions.
During reference interactions, I explain the different services offered through the library and show patrons how to use these services.
Meet with subject specialist librarians to learn major reference and research tools for each area.

DIGITAL INITIATIVES
Goal: Work with the Digital and Multimedia Center and other librarians, faculty, and staff on issues relating to digital preservation and management.
Join data interest initiatives on campus.
Done and ongoing. Together with the other members of the Research Data Management Guidance team, we have formed the Research Data Management CAFÉ (Communities for Advising, Facilitating and Enabling) and I have been named the leader of this CAFÉ.
Implement the CD Masters Project in conjunction with the Digital Multimedia Center, which includes conducting an inventory, organizing, and labeling undocumented CDs.

SCHOLARLY AND CREATIVE ACTIVITIES
Goal: Contribute to the advancement of MSU and the creation and dissemination of new knowledge within the library profession.
Explore publishing and presentation opportunities.
I published an article in the library’s Insights newsletter, co-authored a chapter with Amy Blair on copyright librarianship for the book Emerging Roles in Academic Librarianship (set to be published mid-2013), and I wrote a report about a session I attended at ALA Midwinter for the ALCTS Newsletter Online.
Seek educational opportunities to expand my knowledge of Copyright Law.
I try to attend the University of Maryland’s Center for Intellectual Property’s monthly online “Community Conversations,” which feature discussions by experts in the copyright field. I have also attended seven webinars on copyright that the library has hosted.
Seek educational opportunities to expand my knowledge of librarianship.
I have attended two webinars about areas of librarianship outside of my specialty. I also attended a staff development opportunity on creating exhibits for the library.
Learn about and promote services to encourage academic integrity on-campus.
I attended a session on using Turnitin. I am now the instructor for the LCTTP course on Turnitin and iThenticate.
PROFESSIONAL ACTIVITIES
Goal: Participate and collaborate with librarians, faculty and staff to advance the librarian profession, the MSU Libraries, and MSU.
