This assembly acts as a conduit for information among Round Tables and various units and offices of ALA. Meetings happen every three months and include chairs from all the ALA Round Tables, as well as the ALA President. The primary issues that were discussed this year were communication challenges between chairs and ALA staff and ALA’s financial crisis.
During the June meeting, I proposed that Round Tables hosting separate awards receptions consider combining them into a single shared event. Currently, each Round Table independently pays venue rental fees—typically $1,000–$2,000—resulting in redundant costs and competing receptions often scheduled at the same time. By consolidating into one reception, we could achieve significant cost savings, increase overall attendance, and create opportunities for attendees to learn about other Round Tables. This cross-exposure could also help boost membership across groups. The idea was well received and will be explored for implementation in 2027
At ALA Annual 2026, I staffed the ALA Connect Lounge Information Desk for two hours, providing information about GODORT to interested individuals, as well as answering directional reference questions for conference attendees.
