Past President, 2019-2020, President, 2016-2019
I worked with the Executive Board and membership to create a more inclusive and sustainable organization. Changes included limiting the number of in-person events to just once a year due to low attendance and member feedback.
I also set up a new website and began serving as the webmaster (2019-2026).
Program Chair, 2017-2018
I planned the Spring 2018 conference at the Library of Michigan. This included soliciting presenters to discuss topics of interest to government information librarians and planning the full conference agenda.
COVID caused the organization and official roles in GODORT MI to get a bit disorganized, so while I didn’t have an official title, I planned the Spring 2024 meeting, hosted at the MSU Libraries. In conversations with the last officially elected Executive Board and using results from a membership survey I created with the Treasurer, Anne Elias, it became apparent that GODORT MI had run its course. I worked closely with the Executive Board on this and they voted to dissolve the organization in April 2026.
Anne and I still see a need for a local government information community and we are working on creating a new organization that encompasses our Federal Depository Library Program tri-state region of Michigan, Minnesota, and South Dakota. We are working closely with our Regional Librarian and the University of Minnesota Regional Advisory Group to form this new group. At the UMN Regional Spring Forum on May 29, 2025, Anne and I talked about our intentions and attendees were supportive. We also presented at the 2026 UMN Regional Spring Forum, providing a status update and seeking volunteers to help with the process of creating a new professional organization.
